Storing recreational vehicles requires taking adequate precautionary measures against factors that adversely affect the vehicle. Moreover, it also involves maintaining the vehicle in good working condition. The RV storage in which the vehicle is kept should be equipped with the infrastructure that is required for providing a safe and secure environment for the recreational vehicle. Apart from general precautionary measures, specific care should be taken concerning electrical connections. There are certain guidelines that need to be followed in this regard.
Electrical connectivity using general purpose household extension cords should be avoided. It is always better to use extension cords that are specifically designed for the electrical circuitry of recreational vehicles. This is because the wires used for general purpose electrical connectivity might not be designed to meet the functionality required by a recreational vehicle. The RV storage experts can give an idea of the extension cords that are suitable for a recreational vehicle under consideration. Usually an extension cord with a gauge specification of ten is best suited for recreational vehicles with standard features.
Electrical adapters are indispensable for a recreational vehicle. While the recreational vehicle is on the run, there will be numerous instances where one might have to use electrical adapters. You get to use the adapters where the electricity is very low i.e. about 15 to 20 amps. There are some adapters that are actually designed for recreational vehicles but which can conform themselves to serve the electrical outlets meant for household purposes. On the other hand, there are many RV storage areas that have general adapters that are actually meant for household purposes, but usable in recreational vehicles.
These adapters are pretty handy and they can be used at the time of emergency but they should be used with some constraints. If the recreational vehicle requires a current of 30 amperes, and if there is an outlet that can yield only 10 amps, the functioning of the recreational vehicle is severely restricted. If the adapters are overworked or used for prolonged durations they will eventually get heated up beyond their capacity and get melted or burnt due to which the electrical circuitry of the recreational vehicle stands a fair chance of getting damaged.
If a recreational vehicle with a generator is stored in RV storage , it should be operated at least once a month. The generator manual can give an idea of the load at which the generator should be operated to keep it in a working condition. It is essential to exercise a generator with a carburetor because otherwise the fuel near the jets might just get gelled. In the event of the presence of the gelled fuel around the jets the vehicle will make a surging sound once you operate it.
This can be highly detrimental to the carburetor, electrical appliances and other equipment. The carburetor and the other relevant parts need to be cleaned properly to avoid such inconveniences. For storing the generator for long periods in the RV storage it is better to add a fuel preserver to the fuel in the fuel reservoir and operate the generator till the preserver gets assimilated into the entire system. The preserver is going to prevent the gelling of the fuel for a long time and render it fit for use even after long intervals of idleness.
